The 2025 season for the Pensacola State College Lady Pirates was one built on belief, growth, and grit. From the first day of preseason in August to the final whistle in October, the Lady Pirates embodied the heart of the program — relentless effort, unity, and pride in the badge.
Preseason: Building the Standard
The journey began under the summer heat of Pensacola, where the team returned with a renewed sense of purpose. Training sessions focused on sharpness, defensive organization, and quick attacking transitions — hallmarks of the Pirates' identity. With 15 committed players, the group built chemistry quickly, blending returning leaders like Vivian Kettenhausen, Gracie Savoie, and Amelia Johnson with new faces eager to make their mark.
Regular Season
As the matches began, the Pirates quickly showed they were not just competitors — they were contenders. Their defensive discipline and ability to press high in wide areas frustrated opponents, while their dynamic front line produced moments of brilliance throughout the fall.
One of the defining moments of the season came in the dramatic win over nationally ranked No. 5 Jones College. In a tense battle that showcased the Pirates' determination, Amelia Johnson delivered a stunning game-winning goal in the final moments — sealing a historic victory and sending shockwaves across the NJCAA landscape. The result became a symbol of the team's fight and belief that they could compete with anyone in the country.
The Pirates carried that same energy into their regional campaign, finishing strong to secure the NJCAA Region 8 Championship. A 3-0 win over Pasco-Hernando marked another highlight of the year — with Tamryn Denherder scoring a powerful header, Gracie Savoie earning a penalty after a skillful run, and Vivian Kettenhausen calmly converting from the spot before Makayla Motes added the final strike off a rebound.
Each goal reflected the Pirates' identity: hard work, composure, and unity.
Region and District Play: The Pirate Spirit
The Region 8 crown earned the Lady Pirates their ticket to the South Atlantic District Championship, facing some of the toughest competition in the nation. The preparation was meticulous — long travel days, film analysis, and sessions focused on preventing opponents from playing forward in wide channels.
The Pirates embraced the underdog role with the same fearlessness that defined their season. They fought through every minute, every challenge, and every setback with unshakable character.
The Final Battle: Cape Fear Clash
In the district semifinal, the Lady Pirates faced a formidable Cape Fear Community College side — a rematch steeped in history and pride. It was a match worthy of the postseason: tactical, physical, and emotional. The Pirates out shot the Lady Sea Devils 24-10 but in the end the Sea Devils came out on top.
The Pirates battled for every inch, equalizing through sheer determination to force overtime. Despite the heartbreak of a 2-1 overtime loss, Pensacola State left the field with heads held high, knowing they had earned respect across the region and proven they could stand toe-to-toe with the best.
Season Reflection: A Program on the Rise
The 2025 season was more than wins and losses — it was about setting a new foundation for the program's future. The Lady Pirates showed growth in every phase: from preseason preparation to tactical execution and emotional maturity.
Their story is one of progress — transforming from a group of individuals into a family, from hopefuls into champions of their region.
With a core group of players returning and a clear vision for the future, the Lady Pirates have set the standard for what Pensacola State College soccer represents: discipline, passion, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
