The Pensacola State College Pirates wrapped up their 2025 preseason with two competitive road matches that showcased both resilience and potential heading into the regular season.
On August 15, PSC traveled to Mississippi to face Hinds Community College in their second preseason outing. The match began evenly, with the Pirates moving the ball well and creating chances. However, a miscommunication in the backline allowed Hinds to capitalize and take an early lead. Despite controlling much of the possession, fatigue began to show as the half progressed, and PSC struggled to maintain their rhythm.
After regrouping at halftime, the Pirates returned to the pitch with renewed energy and sharper focus. Their persistence paid off in the closing minutes when freshman Julia Decker slotted home a rebound to level the score at 1-1. PSC held firm in the final moments to secure the draw, with their second-half response offering a promising glimpse of the team's potential.
Just three days later, on August 18, the Pirates headed to Montgomery, Alabama, for their final preseason match against Faulkner University. The game started slowly for PSC, but momentum shifted midway through the first half. Right back Emily Leonavicious delivered a precise cross to Vivian Kettenhausan, who calmly finished to put the Pirates ahead 1-0. Moments later, Tamyrn Denherder doubled the lead with a powerful strike from outside the box.
Despite the 2-0 advantage, PSC knew they hadn't yet reached their full potential. Halftime discussions focused on raising their intensity and refining their play. The second half saw improved defensive organization and midfield control, though finishing chances remained a challenge. Faulkner managed to get on the board late in the match, but PSC held strong to secure the 2-1 victory.
With a draw and a win to close out preseason, the Pirates enter the regular season with confidence and momentum. They'll open their campaign at home against Pearl River on August 21, ready to build on their early progress and make a strong statement.
