Pensacola State College began single-game play for the final round of Panhandle Conference action last week, opening with a hard-fought contest at home against Chipola before traveling to Northwest Florida.
The Pirates dropped a 9–6 decision to Chipola on Wednesday despite showing resilience late. PSC trailed 5–3 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning when the offense came alive. The Pirates plated three runs in the frame to take a 6–5 lead, highlighted by Brea Holley's clutch two-RBI single that drove in the go-ahead runs.
Unfortunately, Chipola answered immediately in the seventh. The rally started when the leadoff batter reached on a dropped third strike, followed by an error on the next play. Capitalizing on the opportunity, the Indians pushed across four runs to reclaim the lead and secure the win.
Offensively, Kate Luyten led Pensacola State with a strong performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Holley, Megan LaMorte, Anna Reily, and Averi Laird each contributed two hits in the loss.
Saturday proved to be a tough outing for the Pirates as Northwest Florida handed PSC a 16–0 defeat. The Raiders jumped out early and maintained control throughout, limiting Pensacola State's chances to generate momentum.
The Pirates will look to finish the season on a positive note this week. PSC returns home Wednesday, April 29, to host Tallahassee for Sophomore Day, celebrating the program's second-year players. The season finale is set for Saturday with a road game at Gulf Coast State.
