The Pensacola State College softball team wrapped up a demanding week of competition with resilience and flair, closing with a thrilling road sweep of Tallahassee on Saturday after facing Chipola on Monday and hosting Northwest Florida State on Wednesday.
PSC opened the week on the road at Chipola, where the Pirates showed fight throughout the doubleheader. In game one, Chipola jumped out to an early five-run lead, but Pensacola State steadily chipped away. The Pirates tied the game in the top of the seventh on a solo home run by Brea Holley. Chipola, however, answered in the bottom of the inning to secure the walk-off win. Holley and Morgan Maples each finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Game two saw PSC's offense slow down in a 3–0 defeat, though Kayleigh Cuccia led the lineup by going 2-for-3.
Back home on Wednesday, the Pirates battled Northwest Florida State in a competitive doubleheader but came up just short, falling 6–2 and 4–2. In game one, Holley continued her strong week, going 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, while Maples also posted a 2-for-3 performance. Game two featured a strong showing in the circle from Kika Bonora, who allowed just six hits and three earned runs. Offensively, Kate Luyten, Holley, and Cuccia each recorded two hits and a double as PSC fought to the final out.
The Pirates saved their best for last, delivering a statement performance in Tallahassee to cap the week. Game one was all Pensacola State, as the Pirates cruised to an 11–0 win in five innings. Brea Holley, Maples, and Megan McKeown all went 2-for-3 with RBIs, while Megan LaMorte and Anna Reily powered the offense with home runs. In the circle, Chevelle Kingsley was dominant, striking out nine and allowing just three hits to earn the victory.
Game two provided one of the most dramatic wins of the season. Down 7–1 with two outs in the seventh inning, the Pirates refused to quit. Two singles and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases before an error brought in a run, followed by a bases-loaded walk to pull PSC closer. Holley then delivered the decisive blow, blasting a grand slam to tie the game at 7–7. A walk and single set the stage for Karlee McLean, who drove in the go-ahead run. Layna Lowry and the PSC defense shut the door in the bottom of the inning, retiring Tallahassee in order to secure the unforgettable comeback win. Lowry earned the victory with 5.1 strong innings of relief, striking out four and scattering five hits. Holley finished 2-for-4 with a double, home run, and five RBIs, while Luyten went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
