The PSC Pirates picked up a dominant doubleheader sweep of Carl Sandburg on Wednesday, earning two shutout victories by identical 8–0 scores. Strong pitching, timely hitting, and late-game heroics defined the day as the Pirates walked off both games to secure the sweep.
In game one, PSC jumped out early with two runs in the first inning and added two more in the fourth before ending the contest in walk-off fashion in the fifth. Brea Holley delivered the final blow with an RBI single to seal the win. Kate Luyten led the offensive charge with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, scoring three runs while adding a double, a triple, and two RBIs. Holley finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Averi Laird went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Megan McKweown and Megan Lamorte each chipped in with a double, finishing 1-for-2. In the circle, Chevelle Kingsley was outstanding, tossing five innings while allowing just one hit and striking out six to earn the win.
The second game followed a similar script, with the Pirates plating three runs in the first inning and four more in the fourth. PSC once again walked it off, this time in the sixth inning. With two outs, Kate Luyten reached on a single and came around to score on a clutch double by Kayleigh Cuccia. Luyten stayed hot, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a sacrifice fly. Holley continued her strong day at the plate with a triple and two RBIs. Alexis Zerquera anchored the second-game victory, throwing six shutout innings while allowing only one hit and striking out eight.
