Pensacola State dropped a tough road contest at Tallahassee State, falling 71–65.
Tallahassee came out firing from the opening tip, taking advantage of Pensacola's defensive breakdowns and shooting an impressive 62% from the field in the first half, including 46% from three. They also controlled the paint and won the rebounding battle, which helped them take a 38–33 lead into halftime.
The second half turned into a defensive grind as both teams tightened up. Pensacola battled foul trouble all night, with Alex Madrid and Deven Bates both fouling out.
Late in the game, the Pirates had chances to make a push but committed back-to-back crucial turnovers that allowed Tallahassee to ice the game.
Josh Middlebrooks provided solid production off the bench with 10 points and 6 rebounds, while Ethan McDonald knocked down four threes to finish with 12 points. Deven Bates led Pensacola with an efficient night, scoring 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 2-of-4 from three, along with 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
Pensacola State will look to bounce back at home on February 4th against Northwest Florida at 7:30 PM CT.
