Pensacola State suffered a hard-fought 99–92 loss to Reid State in a game where momentum never fully shifted in the Pirates' favor. From the opening tip, Reid State asserted its physicality and energy, consistently outworking Pensacola and setting the tone for the night.
The Tigers connected on timely shots throughout the first half, capitalizing on their rhythm to build a 12-point advantage heading into the locker room with a 46–34 lead. Pensacola State struggled to find answers defensively and couldn't slow Reid State's offensive flow.
The Pirates responded with renewed aggression in the second half, pouring in 58 points and attacking the basket with purpose. Despite the offensive surge, Pensacola State couldn't string together enough defensive stops to complete the comeback. Reid State answered each run with clutch baskets, keeping the Pirates at bay and ultimately sealing the seven-point victory.
Free-throw woes proved costly for Pensacola State, which shot just 61% from the stripe in a game decided by seven points. Deven Bates delivered a standout performance with 31 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds, doing everything possible to spark the rally. Sean Owens added 20 points, knocking down six three-pointers, while Malick Sene recorded a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Alex Madrid chipped in eight points and nine rebounds, providing effort on both ends.
Despite the disappointing result, Pensacola State showed resilience in the second half and will look to regroup and refocus as the season continues.
The Pirates will start Panhandle Conference play on Thursday, January 8th when they travel to Chipola.
