Dan Torres is entering his third season as Assistant Coach for the Men’s Basketball Program.

In his first two seasons in Pensacola, Coach Torres has coached 7 All-Panhandle players, and has highlighted impressive wins over two nationally ranked opponents as well. Pensacola beat Tallahassee Community College on the road, who was ranked #2 in the nation, and Lamar State who was ranked #15 in the nation.

Prior to Pensacola, Torres spent four seasons at NAIA Cardinal Stritch University in his hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he coached five all conference performers. He also comes from multiple years of NCAA Division I men's basketball experience. From 2011 to 2013 he was a Student-Manager for the University of Wisconsin-Madison men's basketball program under hall of fame Head Coach Bo Ryan. In the 2011-2012 season, Torres aided the Badgers to a 27-10 record and an appearance in the sweet sixteen of the NCAA tournament. The Badgers were ranked as high as 7th in the nation and finished in the top 4 of the Big Ten Conference. In 2012-2013, Torres helped the badgers to a 24-12 record and an appearance in the first round of the NCAA tournament. They were ranked as high as 18th in the nation and again finished in the top 4 of the Big Ten Conference where Bo Ryan won Coach of the Year. For the Badgers, he prepared opponent video breakdowns, assisted with practices, recorded statistics, and assisted in player development. He also helped coordinate the Bo Ryan summer basketball camps. After his time at UW-Madison, Torres spent two years with the Florida State University Men's basketball program as a Graduate Assistant under Head Coach Leonard Hamilton. At FSU, Torres helped land a pair of two top-10 recruiting classes, including McDonalds All-American and current Charlotte Hornet, Dwayne Bacon. In the 2015-2016 season, he aided FSU to a 20-14 record and a second-round appearance in the National Invitational Tournament. During his time at FSU, he fulfilled many duties, such as compiling scouting reports for opponents, analytics, breaking down video edits, assisting in player development, and practicing on the scout team. He also coordinated the Leonard Hamilton summer basketball camps.

Additionally, Torres has had small stints as a high school Varsity Assistant Coach at Madison La Follette, and interning for the Milwaukee Bucks. He has had the opportunity to work with multiple current and former NBA players. Two of his former roommates at FSU was Malik Beasley, who was the 19th overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft to the Denver Nuggets, and Terance Mann, who was the 48th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft to the Los Angeles Clippers. Other NBA players that Torres has worked with include Dwayne Bacon (Charlotte Hornets), Frank Kaminsky (Phoenix Suns), and former NBA player Sam Dekker. He has also worked with dozens of overseas and NBA G-League professionals respectively.

Torres is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he attended Pius XI High School where he participated in Basketball, Soccer, and Track & Field. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, as well as Florida State University with a Master’s degree in Sport Management.
