Volleyball Goes 2-2 on the Weekend

The Pirate volleyball team traveled to Snead State this past weekend and picked up two wins to officially kick off their season. 

They started the weekend by dropping a 3-1 decision to Lawson State Community College. Freshman Natalie Woods led the offensive attack with eight kills in the match while sophomore Baylee Young helped anchor the defense with 14 kills.

The Pirates found their groove in the second match of the weekend and easily defeated Chattanooga State 3-0. Transfer Katarina Nikolic helped lead the team on offense and defense while she recorded a team high eight kills and nine digs in the match.

On Saturday, PSC lost their first match of the day to Gadsden State Community College 3-0. It was a toughly fought loss as the point difference in each set was three or less. The Pirates had three hitters in double figures with kills as Nikolic had a match high 12 while Natalie Woods chipped in 11 and Elizabeth Thompson tallied 10. Baylee Young recorded a season high 18 digs on defense while Nikolic picked up 11.

In the final match of the weekend the Pirates easily swept Andrew College in an overall strong team performance. Nicole Woods and Thompson led the offensive attack with six kills each while nine Pirates contributed to a team total of 33 kills. Ten Pirates collected digs in the game with Young leading the way with five. 

Head Coach Belarmino was excited to see so many strong performances from the freshmen and was very pleased with the whole teams performance over the weekend.

Pensacola State will return to action this weekend when they host a tournament starting on Friday.
