Shakira Nettles, is the assistant women’s basketball coach at Pensacola State College. Coach Nettles responsibilities include player development, scouting and recruiting. She brings to PSC over seven years of coaching experience. Nettles come from Pearl River Junior College where she served as assistant coach for the 2015-2016 season. She previously served as Assistant Coach for Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas (2012-2015). It is with great enthusiasm that Coach Nettles returns to Pensacola State College where she was the assistant coach for the Lady Pirates Basketball Team during the 2011-2012 season. She helped lead the Lady Pirates to a state championship and a trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association Final Four, finishing third in the nation with a 29-5 record.
During her collegiate playing career, she was a four-year letter-winner and three-year starter for the Lady Jaguars at the University of South Alabama. One of the top guards in the Sun Belt Conference, she earned second and third team all-conference (junior and senior years).
Nettles ended her career at USA by becoming the 18th Lady Jag to eclipse the 1,000-point mark and ranked 12th on USA’s all-time scoring list with 1,024. She was also in the top 10 in three-point field goals (146) and three-point field goal percentage (.339).
Coach Nettles, has a passion and love for the game of basketball and the development of young players. Her approach is motivating players to leave their “comfort zones” so they can push forward with mental toughness and strength. She has coached many players who have gone on to play in Division I basketball programs at University of Southern Mississippi, Alabama State University, Long Island University-Brooklyn and the University of Arizona among others.
Nettles is a 2010 graduate of the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL where she earned a Bachelor of science degree.
