Softball Falls in Extra Innings

Northwest Florida State outlasted the Pirates in a nail biting nine inning game on Saturday.

The Raiders got on the board first with a 2-run homerun in the second inning.

Pensacola answered with a 2-run homerun of their own when Ana Reyes drove a 2-2 pitch over the centerfield fence in the top of the fourth to tie the game.

In the top of the fifth Sadie Rusteika set the table when she reached second base on an error and then scored on a double off the bat of Alexis Guzman. Kayla Leibman plated Guzman with a single to left to give the Pirates a 4-2 lead.

Northwest later tied the game in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of another 2-run homerun.

The teams headed to extra innings and Northwest ended the game on a base loaded walk-off single up the middle.

The Pirates tallied 15 hits in the game with Alexis Guzman leading the way going 3-for-4 with a double and RBI.

Shayne O'Connell pitched a complete game and with a nine strikeout effort.
