Sagar Kapoor enters his first season as Assistant Coach for the Pirates Men’s Basketball Team.
 

Sagar Kapoor comes to Pensacola after spending two seasons as the Director of Basketball Operations at Gardner-Webb University. 

Kapoor previously served as a graduate assistant with the Runnin’ Bulldogs, earning his master’s degree in sports pedagogy in 2018. Kapoor joined the Runnin’ Bulldogs program after serving the East Carolina University program and Head Coach Jeff Lebo as their Men’s Basketball Manager from 2013 through 2016. 

At ECU, Kapoor completed his first season as a volunteer manager before being hired as a student manager. While with the program, he assisted the team and coaching staff with a variety of duties.

Prior to arriving at GWU, Kapoor also served at ScoutsFocus and was Camp Director of their All-American camp. In that role, Kapoor recruited players throughout the nation to attend camp and communicated with a wide range of coaches from the Division I, II, and III levels as well as NAIA and Junior Colleges regarding players.

In his first year as a Graduate Assistant Coach with Gardner-Webb University, the Runnin’ Bulldogs went 19-14 making their way to the Big South Conference tournament semifinals.  In his current role, Kapoor assists Gardner-Webb with a variety of duties, including travel, meal planning and as a liasion for a number of areas across campus and in the community. Kapoor assists with recruiting by helping during on-campus visits and organization of summer recruiting schedules for the coaching staff.  

With academics at the forefront of the Runnin’ Bulldogs priorities, Kapoor has assisted in the overseeing of student-athlete academic success by coordinating study hall and class checks for the players.

Kapoor has also worked a variety of collegiate basketball camps including: Duke University, Michigan State University, Appalachian State University, and Jay Bilas camp.  He has also spent time in professional development by attending the Rising Coaches Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. Kapoor notes John Wooden as one of his primary influences as a coach for his unique philosophies. Additionally, he claims Coach Mike Hollis, President of NetWorks Basketball as one of the individuals who has had the greatest impact on him as a coach, claiming “He has played a significant impact in molding me into the coach that I am. He challenges me, encourages me, and believes in me to be the best coach that I can be.”

As a graduate of ECU, he earned his B.S. in Health and Physical Education while maintaining a 3.74 GPA as a member of the Dean’s List each semester at the University in 2016.  The Holly Springs, N.C. native graduated from Holly Springs High School. He is the son of Rakesh, and Renu Kapoor. He also has a brother, Sunny Kapoor.
