Late Rally Pushes Pirates Past Gulf Coast

Pensacola State (20-22, 7-10) came from behind Monday to knock off Gulf Coast State 11-10. The Pirates would enter the top of the ninth down by two runs with the Commadores closer taking the mound. Fausto Lopez and Richard Sorrenti would start the inning off with two walks to put the tying run on base. Two batters later Josh Rulli would bring them both home with a 1-out double to left-center to tie the game 10-10. With two outs and Rulli at second, Jake Nemith would deliver a single to center to give the Pirates the lead. Aaron Ginn would close out the ball game in the ninth to earn the win for the Pirates. 

Starter, Evan Floyd went 4 innings while giving up 5 runs before giving way to the bullpen. Floyd left with an 8-5 lead, but Gulf Coast would take advantage of the Pirates bullpen by scoring 3 runs in the sixth to tie the game at 8. Gulf Coast would tack on two runs via a homerun in the 8th before the Pirates would take control. 

PSC managed 15 hits to Gulf Coast's 9. The Pirates were led offensively by Malique Foreman (3-5 2RBI, 1R), Josh Rulli (2-5 2RBI, 3R) and Richard Sorrenti (3-4 1RBI, 2R). 

 

The Pirates are back in action Wednesday at 5:00 as they host Gulf Coast.
