The Pensacola State Pirates drop both games of a double header to Gulf Coast on Saturday 5-4, 3-0.
In Game 1, the Pirates couldn't quite pull out the victory losing 5-4 in ten innings. The game was tied 4-4 with PSC batting with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th. Girffin Rivers stepped to the plate with a chance to end it for Pensacola. Rivers would hit a chopper to second that would look to end the game but a great play by the second baseman and questionable out call at the plate would keep the game tied. Gulf Coast would answer the very next inning with the go ahead run and hang on to win.
Chad Bryant got the start for Pensacola going four and two/thirds innings giving up 4 runs and striking out four. Aaron Ginn would come on in the eighth and retire Gulf Coast hitters for two innings until the two out RBI in the 10th. Josh Rulli and Ryan Brewer would collect two hits a piece to lead the offense.
In Game 2, PSC couldn't get the offense going, losing 3-0 thanks to solid pitching from Gulf Coast starter Alec Aleywine. PSC starter Alex Tyson would give up 3 runs on a 3 run homerun in the first inning, but would settle down and not allow a run for the next five innings before giving way to the bullpen. Louis Davenport would come in to relieve Tyson and pitch a scoreless seventh.
PSC had a few opportunites to get runs across but Aleywine would pitch out it. PSC only managed 4 hits in game 2.
The Pirates are back in action Tuesday at home vs. Northwest Florida. Gametime is 5:00pm.
